 Massage Therapy

Massage Therapy is a truly holistic approach as it establishes harmony between body and mind. It helps to facilitate an inner awareness of the body and openness to the messages the body is sending. This is the first step to preventative medicine as it enables a person to respond to their body’s needs preventing stress and injury. Medical research is now showing that up to 90% of all illness is induced by stress.

Therapeutic massage is aimed at manipulating the muscles and surrounding connective tissue as well as addressing the other body systems such as the lymphatic, circulatory and nervous system. The specific goals could include: pain relief, release of muscle tightness, greater flexibility and range of motion, repair of injured tendons, muscles and ligaments, release of nerve compression and release of adhesions to name a few.

Judith’s Approach

I use a variety of approaches which include: Myofascial release (MFR)*, deep tissue massage, advanced trigger point therapy, structural energy balancing, Reiki, reflexology, and breath work. I work very intuitively following the innate wisdom of the body to restore itself to wholeness. The benefits of the treatment are to improve the health of the muscles and fascia, improve circulation and restore good posture as well as rebalance and unblock the energy body (life force) when it becomes congested or over stimulated due to emotional, physical and/or environmental stress.

*Myofascial release is a specialized technique that targets the fascial system. Fascia is very tough connective tissue which forms a continuous web throughout the entire body. It is like a superficial body suit which allows you to move freely, breathe properly and perform daily tasks pain free. Fascial restrictions can result from traumas, surgeries and poor posture as well as repetitive strain and lack of stretching. All of these traumas cause the fascial tissue to become too tight and exert abnormal tension, leading to decreased movement and pain. MFR techniques effectively treat tight fascia by applying gradual pressure and creating a sustained stretch to release the tissue to a softer more pliable state.

Your Session

Your first visit will last an hour and a half. A short medical history will be taken, which will remain confidential. During your treatment you will be fully covered, with only the area being worked on exposed. The treatment you receive will be tailored to your individual needs, and a follow-up program will be given when necessary.

Insurance Coverage

Many insurance carriers are including massage therapy in their benefit packages. This is due to the fact that therapeutic massage helps reduce the need for more prolonged and expensive medical intervention. Call your insurance supplier to see if you have this coverage.
